  • (San Francisco, California, January 5, 2009) — Today, the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and Lambda Legal filed a reply brief in the California Supreme Court, the next step in the lawsuit seeking to overturn Proposition 8, which passed by a mere 52 percent on November 4.

    • EQCA passed its 50th bill in ten years—truly a milestone.
    • 67 legislators voted for all five of our bills in 2008 for a perfect score—up 6% from 2007—and continuing a solid majority of supportive legislators with a perfect score in both houses.

    • California’s foster youth and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people will receive new legal protections that will improve many aspects of their lives. Three bills, all sponsored by Equality California, go into effect in the new year, including a law that will help protect children in foster care from harassment and discrimination in public schools.
