SB 1827 - State Income Tax Equity Act of 2006

Senate Bill 1827, the State Income Tax Equity Act of 2006, authored by Senator Carole Migden (D-San Francisco), would amend the tax and family codes to enable registered domestic partners to enjoy the same financial protections afforded married heterosexual couples by allowing them to file joint state income tax returns. Once this bill is passed, California will join Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts as states that provide tax equality to same-sex partners.

STATUS: Passed by Legislature. Signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger on September 30, 2006.
