AB 102 - Name Equality Act

This legislation allows domestic partners and married spouses equal opportunity, regardless of gender, to change their surnames upon marriage or domestic partnership registration.

Status: Passed by Assembly on May 7 by a 45-20 bipartisan vote. Passed Senate by a 24-15 vote. Signed by Governor Schwarzenegger; became law on January 1, 2008.
