Equality California Welcomes New Development Director

San Francisco - Equality California (EQCA) announced today that Eric Harrison has joined the organization as its Director of Development. Harrison, named by the North Bay Business Journal as one of the publication's 2009 top 'Forty under 40' remarkable professionals, previously served as Vice President of Resource Development at United Way of the Wine Country.

"We are thrilled that Eric Harrison has joined Equality California," said Geoff Kors, EQCA Executive Director. "His expertise and longtime commitment to social justice will help us sustain and grow our efforts to achieve full equality for LGBT Californians."

During Harrison's tenure with United Way of the Wine Country, the organization consistently surpassed its fundraising goals. Harrison was instrumental in helping the nonprofit achieve a record-breaking fundraising year, raising $4.25 million, $350,000 above the organization's goal. In 2005, United Way of America named Harrison an Emerging LGBT Leader and a Resident Fellow in 2006.

He has also served as an education volunteer/teacher trainer for the Peace Corps in Madagascar. Harrison holds a bachelor's degree in speech communications and theater arts from Concordia College and an MBA from the Minnesota School of Business.

Equality California (EQCA) is the largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights advocacy organization in California. In the past decade, EQCA has strategically moved California from a state with extremely limited legal protections for LGBT individuals to a state with some of the most comprehensive civil rights protections in the nation. EQCA has passed over 60 pieces of legislation and continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, public education and community empowerment. www.eqca.org
