Equality California Thanks Speaker of the Assembly John A. Pérez for his Moving Statement in Support of SB 1172

August 29, 2012

Equality California thanks Speaker of the Assembly John A. Pérez  for his moving statement in support of  SB 1172, the bill to end the abusive and dangerous use of so-called "conversion  therapy" on minors.

“We give enormous thanks to Speaker John A. Pérez, who made an impassioned speech on the Assembly floor in support of SB 1172 yesterday,” said EQCA Board President Clarissa Filgioun. “The Speaker’s remarks explaining why this is a ‘just law’ to protect the basic humanity of LGBT youth, sums up perfectly why it is so critical that the Governor sign this bill. Everyone should watch this speech now!”

SB 1172 passed the  assembly yesterday by a margin of 52-21 and now proceeds to the State Senate  for a concurrence vote, and then to desk of Governor Jerry Brown.
