Equality California Calls For Sacramento 'Good Neighbor' Award Nominations to Honor Unsung Heroes of the LGBT Community
Call for Nominations is Open for Award to Recognize Local Grassroots Leaders
(Sacramento) Equality California has partnered with State Farm Insurance to honor a Sacramento-area grassroots activist who has made a difference in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians. The organization has officially launched a public “call for nominations” for this important award. The Sacramento Equality Awards will also recognize Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman with the Equality California Leadership Award.
This is the first year for Good Neighbor Awards in Sacramento; the award debuted last year in San Francisco, honoring Dr. Royce C. Lin, recognized for his work providing high-quality health care to LGBT people, particularly low-income transgender women and people living with HIV/AIDS, through his work at the Tom Waddell Health Center and San Francisco General Hospital's Ward 86. Lin was chosen from a pool of outstanding nominees nominated by members of the public and selected by a committee of Equality California board and staff members.
"Our movement is built on the backs of community members who quietly do the vast majority of day-to-day work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians. We can't win without the passion and dedication of grassroots activists nourishing our neighborhoods and sustaining our momentum, and this is our chance to celebrate their work," said John O'Connor, Equality California executive director. "We are proud to partner with State Farm Insurance to recognize the unsung heroes and good neighbors throughout our state on a bigger stage."
Supporters of equality throughout California may submit nominations by visiting: http://eqcaawards.org/sacramento/good-neighbor-award/. Submissions must be received no later than February 16.
To encourage nominations, EQCA will award a pair of complimentary tickets to the Sacramento Equality Awards ($100 value) to the individual whose nominee is selected for the award.*
The 2013 Equality Awards are made possible in part by Statewide Presenting Sponsor AT&T, Statewide Reception Sponsor State Farm Insurance and Statewide Sponsor Southwest Airlines.
For more information about tickets to or sponsorship of the 2013 Equality Awards visit http://eqcaawards.org/sacramento/.
*Note: in the event that multiple individuals nominate the same person, each of those individuals will be entered into a drawing to determine which nominator will receive the complimentary tickets to the Sacramento Equality Awards.
Equality California (EQCA) is the largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy organization in California. Equality California has partnered with legislators to successfully sponsor more than 90 pieces of pro-equality legislation. EQCA continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment. www.eqca.org
