Equality California Extends its LGBT Outreach in the Central Valley with Town Hall and “Health Happens with Equality” Briefing in Fresno

(Los Angeles) Equality California announced today two parallel events designed to extend its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender education and outreach efforts in the Central Valley. EQCA, the largest LGBT advocacy organization in California, will host a Town Hall meeting followed by a “Health Happens with Equality” briefing on Thursday, May 16 at 6 pm at the Fresno LGBT Community Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

Equality California’s Executive Director John O’Connor will present updates on the organization’s current work for full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians at the town hall. He will present information about EQCA’s current legislative package, educational work and political action committee agenda. He will also open the session to questions and comments from the audience, in an effort to gain insight into the issues most on the minds of the community. The event is presented with support from the LGBT Community Center, Get Equal, the GSA Network and other community leaders.

EQCA will also conduct public outreach as part of the “Health Happens with Equality” campaign. The campaign, funded by a grant from the California Endowment, works to educate underserved members of the LGBT community on new health insurance options under the Affordable Care Act, and the Fresno event is part of a statewide series of health fairs that provide information and opportunities to sign up for health care.

“The Central Valley is an important part of our mission to bring full equality and nothing less to California, and that means both actively engaging with the community there, and making sure that they have access to programs like Health Happens with Equality,” said O’Connor.

EQCA encourages anyone who is or knows someone who is uninsured or underinsured to come get this vital health coverage information.
