Equality California Announces State Farm Good Neighbor Award Honoree Vincent Pompei
(San Diego) Equality California today announced that Vincent Pompei has been named State Farm Good Neighbor Award honoree for the San Diego Equality Awards on June 1.
Pompei is the project director for the Center for Excellence in School Counseling and Leadership, and the chair for the only national educator conference focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer youth. He is currently a full time doctoral candidate at San Diego State University and is a former middle school and high school teacher.
“Vincent’s passion and dedication to LGBT youth make him the best kind of neighbor to have — engaged, energized and effective,” said John O’Connor, EQCA executive director. “We’re proud to recognize his hard work with the State Farm Good Neighbor award.”
The State Farm Good Neighbor Award is given to a community activist who embodies the grassroots work that is essential to securing a state of full equality. Last year’s award winner was Dr. Joel Trambly, recognized for his longstanding activism within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
The San Diego Equality Awards will take place on Saturday, June 1, at the Prado in Balboa Park.
The 2013 Equality Awards are presented by AT&T and sponsored by State Farm Insurance, Wells Fargo and Southwest Airlines. Equality California has partnered with legislators to successfully pass over 90 pieces of pro-equality legislation and continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment. www.eqca.org
