Equality California Announces State Farm Good Neighbor Honoree for 2014 San Diego Equality Awards

(San Diego) Equality California announced that it will honor Patrick Loose with the State Farm Good Neighbor Award at its 2014 San Diego Equality Awards on Saturday, May 3.

Patrick Loose is the Chief of the HIV, STD and Hepatitis Branch of Public Health Services in the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency. He leads a dedicated team that creates and implements innovative strategies to deliver testing, education, prevention and treatment services, as well as develop the capacity of community-based organizations and providers to better address the health care and support needs of the people they serve.

"Few people combine passion with persistence like Patrick does,” said John O’Connor, executive director of Equality California. “His long record of grassroots outreach reduced structural barriers to care for many of the most vulnerable in our community, including homeless LGBT youth.”

Loose was chosen from a pool of outstanding candidates nominated by members of the public. During this year’s San Diego Equality Awards, Loose will receive the award alongside other honorees, including the Proposition 8 plaintiffs, and City Human Rights Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez.

Each year, Equality California recognizes individuals and organizations that have made an impact on the movement to secure full and lasting equality for LGBT people at its annual Equality Awards — a series of formal galas and cocktail events held in San Francisco, San Diego, Palm Springs, Los Angeles and Sacramento. Past honorees have included Adam Lambert, Dolores Huerta, Arianna Huffington, Attorney General Kamala Harris and California Governor Jerry Brown.
