Equality California Endorses Seven Additional Candidates for November Election

(Sacramento) Equality California is proud to add endorsements of Connie Leyva, Bob Wieckowski, Matt Dababneh, Bill Dodd, Kansen Chu, Chris Parker and Eduardo Garcia to the previous slate of over 50 endorsed candidates with 100-percent pro-equality ratings.

"We are proud to endorse these candidates, knowing that each has a strong pro-equality record and a commitment to make full equality for LGBT Californians a priority," said Rick Zbur, Equality California executive director-elect.

For Senate District 10, which includes parts of Fremont and Santa Clara, EQCA endorses Bob Wieckowski, currently the Assemblymember for Assembly District 25. Wieckowski has a 100-percent pro-equality voting record.

For Senate District 20, which includes Ontario, EQCA endorses Connie Leyva, the first female president of the California State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO. As head of the California Labor Federation, she helped mobilize working men and women against Proposition 8.

For Assembly District 4, which includes Napa Valley, EQCA endorses Bill Dodd, who currently serves as a member of the Napa County Board of Supervisors.

For Assembly District 25, which includes parts of Fremont and Santa Clara, EQCA endorses Kansen Chu, who currently serves on the San Jose City Council. Chu pushed to have San Jose added to San Francisco’s brief opposing Prop. 8.

For Assembly District 45, which includes parts of the West San Fernando Valley, EQCA endorses Matt Dababneh, who was elected to AD 45 in a special November 2013 election. Dababneh has a 100-percent pro-equality voting record.

For Assembly District 56, which includes Imperial Valley and parts of Coachella Valley, EQCA endorses Eduardo Garcia, who is currently the mayor of the city of Coachella.

For Board of Equalization District 1, EQCA endorses Chris Parker, who is currently the tax counsel for the Franchise Tax Board, and has been a member of the Sacramento Stonewall Democrats since 2007.

The Equality California Political Action Committee endorses viable candidates running for statewide offices and the state legislature who have a proven track record of supporting equal rights and legal protections for LGBT Californians and who are committed to advancing these goals in their capacity as elected officials.

Equality California (EQCA) is the largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy organization in California. For more than a decade, Equality California has strategically moved California from a state with extremely limited legal protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to a state with some of the most comprehensive human rights protections in the nation. Equality California has partnered with legislators to successfully sponsor 96 pieces of pro-equality legislation. EQCA continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment. www.eqca.org
