Issues

In the past decade, EQCA has successfully passed more than 60 pieces of civil rights legislation for the LGBT community – more than any other statewide LGBT organization in the nation.

Working in partnership with California’s LGBT Legislative Caucus, EQCA is committed to building a better future for all Californians by protecting youth, strengthening families and empowering communities.

  • Marriage & Relationships Couples can register as domestic partners, receiving most of the rights and responsibilities of married couples.
  • Non-Discrimination EQCA has helped the state secure the most comprehensive civil rights protections in the nation while focusing on creating a California that fosters respect, dignity and equality for all LGBT people.
  • Seniors EQCA has worked to ensure the rights of LGBT seniors, protecting them from discrimination in retirement communities, ensuring their access to important state services and programs, and safeguarding their homes and assets after the death of one partner.
  • Transgender Rights Transgender Californians often face prejudice based on their actual or perceived gender identity. EQCA’s nondiscrimination work has focused on workplace and employment protections, equal access to health care and housing, and safe school environments.
  • Youth EQCA works to secure protections for all youth, including those who identify as LGBT, so they can grow and learn in an environment that is free from harassment, bullying and discrimination.
