AB 2654 - Civil Rights Act of 2008

Assembly Bill 2654, the Civil Rights Act of 2008, would amend existing nondiscrimination provisions to be consistent with the nondiscrimination protections in the Unruh Civil Rights Act and Government Code Section 11135, which prohibits discrimination in state-funded programs and activities. AB 2654 is the fifth in a series of successful nondiscrimination bills designed to strengthen major areas of California law and clarify that people are protected from discrimination regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
 

STATUS:
Introduced on February 22, 2008. Passed California Legislature and now goes to the governor's desk for consideration. Signed into law by Governor Schwarzengger on September 30.
