Swim for Equality
On September 25, swimmers will swim 1.7 miles along the coast of Malibu to raise critical awareness and funds for LGBT rights in California. Do you have what it takes?
Equality California is on the front lines, winning LGBT rights in the legislature and in the court of public opinion. EQCA advocates for the passage of LGBT protections in Sacramento and works with key coalition partners and thousands of volunteers to build public support for marriage for same-sex couples.
Support a Swimmer or Team
Make a donation to help a swimmer cross the finish line. Together, we will achieve equality for LGBT Californians, one stroke at a time.

Why the Swim for Equality?

"Issues of LGBT equality hit particularly close to home, as I have friends who are LGBT, some of whom have been afraid to come out of the closet. I see the work that Equality California is doing as so important to the welfare of my friends and all LGBT people."

I’ve long found it unfortunate that so many gays and lesbians feel uncomfortable coming out in elite swimming and professional sports. I think Equality California’s Swim for Equality gives the sport of swimming a fun, fantastic way to stand up for equality. I look at everyone, no matter what their sexual orientation, as equal, and the law should do the same.

For me, sports are the perfect way to provide a message of a hopeful future to our community, particularly LGBTQ teens. I’m grateful to see so much support for the Swim for Equality, particularly from two Olympic heroes like Gary and Lenny. The Swim for Equality is a win, win, win all the way around!
