Equal ID Act

Bill Number: AB 1185

Assembly Bill 1185 would allow qualified transgender people born in California to return to the county of their birth to obtain a new birth certificate reflecting the correct gender, as well as any accompanying name change.

 



Status: Introduced on February 27, 2009, passed Assembly Judiciary Committee, passed Assembly, Passed Senate Judiciary Committee by a 3-2 vote. Passed the Senate on September 1, 2009 by a 22-14 vote.  Vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger.

  • The anti-LGBT right-wing is trying to kill EQCA's bill to repeal the California law that instructs health officials to conduct research into the "causes and cures of homosexuality." Why? Because they know that when people learn that sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed they are much more likely to support full equality.
