Faith Community Action around Day of Decision

Faith leaders, the Bay Area Coalition for Welcoming Congregations, California Faith for Equality, and Equality California are kicking into gear to provide faith centered events across the state.

The “Sunday” After
Sunday, May 31

The weekend following the court decision, clergy and worship leaders are encouraged to address the theological, social and emotional effects of the court decision during their worship service.

The coalition of co-sponsors also includes Jewish Mosaic, California Council of Churches, Progressive Jewish Alliance, Freedom in Christ Church of San Francisco, Metropolitan Community Church, The Fellowship, Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of California, Glide Memorial Church, Marriage Equality USA, and the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the Pacific School of Religion.

As a part of our newly launched Win Back Marriage: Make It Real! campaign, Equality California along with its faith coalition building partners, including GettoKnowUsFirst.orgCalifornia Faith for Equality and Bay Area Coalition for Welcoming Congregations is working to support clergy and congregants from all faith traditions around the State of California to talk to their congregations about why the freedom to marry matters.     6:30 p.m.

    Gather at the 12th BART Station and walk over to the 14th Lake Merritt United Methodist Church (1330 Lake Shore Ave) for a service on their steps. Walk around the lake for a candlelight vigil or celebration after the service.
