Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention

Bill Number: HR 16

This resolution would put the California Assembly on record in support of the federal Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which would expand the authority and capacity of the United States Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated violence.

Status: Passed the Assembly Committee on Public Safety by a vote of 4-0, passed full legislature on July 16, 2009.

The anti-LGBT right-wing is trying to kill EQCA's bill to repeal the California law that instructs health officials to conduct research into the "causes and cures of homosexuality." Why? Because they know that when people learn that sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed they are much more likely to support full equality.
