How to Participate
About the 2011 Swim for Equality
The Second Annual Swim for Equality is an athletic fundraiser for Equality California, the largest statewide LGBT rights organization in the state. Experienced swimmers and supporters will raise critical awareness and funds to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians.
Your goal: Swim 1.7 miles in open water along the coast of
To participate, you must be an advanced swimmer, capable of completing either 1.7 miles (Malibu) or 1.2 miles (Alcatraz) in open water, and you must want to ensure that LGBT Californians get the equal rights they deserve.
You are strongly encouraged to participate in a swim clinic with Southern California Aquatics, www.swim-art.com or L.A. Tri Club (members only). Plus, check out these great Open Water Swimming Tips to get you started on your training.
All Swimmers must agree to comply with all rules and regulations of this event and instructions of lifeguards, event co-chairs, directors and volunteers.
If you don’t want to swim, you can still help make the event a success. Swimmers need support to help them reach their fundraising goals. By signing up as a Swim Advocate, you and possibly one other person will help a Swimmer reach or exceed their $2,000 goal. You can choose to be paired with a Swimmer you know or one at random.
You'll be invited to participate in the festivities around the event, including the Finish Line Brunch after the Swim.
