Tax Resources for Domestic Partners
California’s registered domestic partners filing their 2007 state income tax returns in 2008 will file returns with the state as married individuals. However, because the federal government does not recognize domestic partners as married individuals for federal tax purposes, California domestic partners will continue to file as unmarried individuals on their federal returns. Domestic partners should use the state’s adjustments worksheet for registered domestic partners (RDPs) to ensure the accuracy of both state and federal returns.
California’s Franchise Tax Board offers a variety of tax resources for all Californians, including registered domestic partners.
