Equality California (EQCA) is the nation’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization with over 800,000 members. Equality California brings the voices of LGBTQ people and allies to institutions of power in California and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. We advance civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those we serve. Through its legislative work, EQCA has successfully sponsored 140 pieces of pro-equality legislation cementing California as the state with the strongest LGBTQ-civil rights protections in the country.
Equality California Institute (EQCAI) is a 501(c)3 organization that has a parallel mission to EQCA, its 501(c)4 counterpart. EQCAI educates the broader community on important LGBTQ issues such as transgender equality, violence and hate crimes, healthcare, health disparities, the needs of LGBTQ seniors and youth, homelessness and immigration. Over the last five years, EQCAI has spearheaded successful programs to tackle these issues, including multiple public education programs and events, such as Fair Share for Equality, LGBTQ Advocacy Day, LGBTQ Leadership Academy, Out Against Big Tobacco, Equality4All, #Take It – I’m PrEP’d, #Out4Mental Health, #WillBeCounted and Health Happens with Equality.
In 2019, Equality California launched Silver State Equality, a program to advance the mission of full, lived equality for all LGBTQ people in Nevada.
Equality California seeks an Associate Director of Donor Relations to develop and oversee a comprehensive, relationship-based individual giving program by managing the research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of sustaining and major donors. With support from the Executive and Managing Directors and Director of Development, the Associate Director of Donor Relations will manage a Donor Relations Manager and Associate and work alongside a two-person special events team to plan and execute successful communication campaigns and events in which to engage individuals with the capacity and passion to advance the Equality California mission.
The Donor Relations team will capitalize on strategic opportunities to retain and grow relationships with current constituents, convert event attendees into ongoing supports and identify and engage new donors in the Capitol Club, our sustaining donor program for gifts of $600-$4,999 annually, and Leadership Circle, our major donor program for gifts of $5,000+ annually. The Associate Director of Donor Relations’ responsibilities also include direct major gift solicitation and supporting host committee management for the six-event Equality Awards series. Experience with planned giving, grant management and/or capital/endowment campaigns is preferred. This is a full-time, salaried position with the ideal candidate being based in Equality California’s Los Angeles headquarters with the ability to travel frequently to major markets throughout California and Nevada. San Francisco and other California-based candidates will be considered. Qualified candidates outside of California are also encouraged to apply with the potential for relocation support.
