RE: COVID-19 Update

The Equality Awards are a critical opportunity for members of our community to come together and honor the inspirational leaders and organizations whose selfless work helps to create a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people. Equality California’s top priority at the Equality Awards — and all of our events — is the health and safety of our guests and supporters.

As the status of COVID-19 (or “Coronavirus”) continues to evolve across California and the nation, we are closely monitoring the situation and are in regular contact with local and state public health officials.

At this time, we are planning to move forward with all of the 2020 Equality Awards — consistent with guidance from federal, state and local public health officials — beginning with the Sacramento Equality Awards on April 14, 2020. We will immediately notify our guests and sponsors of any updates or changes to the Equality Awards schedule should they become necessary.

We are following all relevant guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the California Department of Public Health and local public health officials regarding events and necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Equality California will work with our event venues to take preventative measures at the Equality Awards, including hand sanitizer stations throughout our events and frequent surface wipe downs with EPA-approved disinfectants.
  • We will ask anyone who is sick or becomes sick not to attend the Equality Awards, including any respiratory symptoms or fever, regardless of the presumed cause.
  • We will also advise guests who belong to high-risk demographic groups (older adults, people with compromised immune systems and people with serious chronic medical conditions) not to attend large gatherings or community events including the Equality Awards at this time.
  • Anyone who has already purchased a ticket and is unable to attend the Equality Awards due to COVID-19 should contact events@eqca.org.

We will also advise all Equality Awards guests to follow the California Department of Public Health’s recommendations regarding personal hygiene (washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and using hand sanitizer frequently throughout the day, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow, avoiding face touching) and social distancing (avoiding shaking hands, hugging and social kissing in favor of waves or elbow bumps) at our events. Please contact events@eqca.org with any questions regarding the 2020 Equality Awards.
