Los Angeles–In response to a memo by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to federal prosecutors stating that Title VII sex discrimination protections of the 1964 Civil Rights Act do not apply to transgender people, Equality California Executive Director Rick Zbur issued the following statement:
“The Trump Administration has fired another salvo in its war against transgender Americans and made it clear that it is committed to unraveling the progress our community has made over the past two decades. Title VII exists to protect all Americans, including transgender Americans, from discrimination based on gender. This sharp reversal from Obama-era guidance once again highlights the hostility with which this administration views the LGBTQ community.”
