Palm Springs — Equality California congratulates Palm Springs City Councilmember-elect Geoff Kors on his victory in Tuesday’s municipal election.  Kors was endorsed by Equality California.

“Both the LGBT community and all residents of Palm Springs are very fortunate to have elected one of the LGBT community’s shining stars,” said Rick Zbur, executive director of EQCA. “Geoff has spent decades representing the interests of LGBT people.  He will be an effective leader on the Palm Springs City Council.”

Kors helmed Equality California from 2002 until 2011, making it a major force behind everything from electing pro-equality candidates to policies protecting LGBT Californians on the job and in their homes. Under his leadership, Equality California went from being a small, relatively unknown non-profit to the largest statewide LGBT advocacy organization in the country. He contributed to the passage of more than 70 laws protecting the LGBT community. Kors currently is government policy director with the National Center for Lesbian Rights and continues to give his time to many other organizations.

Equality California endorses viable candidates who have a proven track record of supporting equal rights and legal protections for LGBT Californians and who are committed to advancing these goals in their capacity as elected officials.
