Los Angeles – Equality California, California’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, announced today its endorsement of Geoff Kors for Palm Springs City Council.
“Geoff’s work over the past two decades advancing full equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is unparalleled,” said EQCA Executive Director Rick Zbur. “He is not only brilliant but has dedicated his career to improving the lives of LGBT people. Simply put, without Geoff’s commitment to our issues, California would not be leading the nation in achieving comprehensive civil rights protections for LGBT people. As a member of the Palm Springs City Council, Geoff will bring the same drive and commitment to making Palm Springs a better city for its residents and visitors. We are proud to endorse EQCA’s former leader as he moves to a new phase in his impressive career.”
Currently serving as the Government Policy Director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Kors has dedicated his career to the advancement of LGBT civil rights in California and across the nation. From 2002-2011, Kors served as the Executive Director for Equality California where he was a key architect of the LGBT community’s strategy to achieve marriage equality and comprehensive civil rights protections. Kors also served on the Executive Committee for the No on 8 campaign, raising over $10 million against Proposition 8.
The election for Palm Springs City Council will be held November 3, 2015.
EQCA endorses LGBT candidates in local races who have exhibited exceptional leadership and ongoing commitment to LGBT equality and social justice. It is vital to have LGBT voices represented at all levels of government. Growing the bench of LGBT elected officials is important to the mission of Equality California and advancing full equality for LGBT Californians.
