WASHINGTON —  Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced the endorsement of Assemblymember Evan Low — currently serving California’s 26th Assembly District — for election in CA-16, a seat currently held by Rep. Anna Eshoo, who has announced she will not run for re-election in 2024. Executive Director Tony Hoang offered the following statement:

“We are beyond grateful to have worked closely with Rep. Eshoo for the entire lifetime of our organization to help advance LGBTQ+ equality in Washington, D.C. and make California a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ people around the world. We thank her for her decades of service as a staunch pro-equality champion

During his more than 15 years in office — first as Mayor of Campbell, then as a California Assemblymember — Evan Low has dutifully served his constituents and helped open doors for future generations of out LGBTQ+ legislators. As a member of the Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, he has led on legislation to better the lives of LGBTQ+ Californians in various arenas, including healthcare, safe and supportive schools, cultural competency for law enforcement, and more. Just this year, he joined Sen. Scott Wiener in successfully advancing ACA 5 through the legislative process — a constitutional amendment that will remove the discriminatory, anti-marriage equality language of Proposition 8 from our state’s constitution once and for all. In no small part because of his leadership, this issue will appear on the 2024 general election ballot, where we are confident that the voters of California will act to protect same-sex and interracial marriages. His experience and strong record make him the ideal candidate to represent California’s 16th Congressional District.

We are eager to work to elect Evan Low to Congress in 2024, alongside our largest-ever slate of pro-equality endorsees up and down the ballot.”
