SACRAMENTO — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced its endorsement Thursday of Senator Sydney Kamlager for Congressional District 37. California’s 37th District encompasses Culver City, Ladera Heights, View Park, Park Mesa Heights, Baldwin Hills, Crenshaw, South Central, Hyde Park, Jefferson Park, Leimert Park, Palms, South Robertson, West Adams, Mid-City, Pico, West L.A, and more neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

“Equality California is proud to endorse our friend and pro-equality champion Sydney Kamlager for Congress,” said Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoang. “In Sacramento, Sydney has been one of our most committed allies, standing up for critical, pro-equality legislation — no matter the personal or political consequences time and time again. We need Sydney’s strong voice and unwavering commitment to justice in Congress, and we look forward to continuing our work together in the nation’s capital when she wins.”

Sen. Kamlager currently represents Senate District 30 in Los Angeles County. In the Legislature, she has fought to pass a COVID-19 eviction moratorium, increase equity in our criminal justice system and remove cost as a barrier to reproductive healthcare. The fight for civil rights and social justice for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV is personal to Sen. Kamlager, as she works tirelessly to honor her openly LGBTQ+ uncle, who passed away during the AIDS crisis.

“I am grateful to Equality California for their endorsement of my congressional campaign,” said Senator Sydney Kamlager. “As a proud, lifelong ally to the LGBTQ+ community, I am dedicated to advancing racial, social and economic justice and will continue to support legislation that directly translates to better outcomes for LGBTQ+ Californians in our nation’s capital. I look forward to a continued partnership and fighting for what is just with Equality California.”
