Planned Giving

By including Equality California Institute in your estate plan, or other types of planned gifts, you are ensuring a stronger future for our organization and will create a lasting impact on the LGBTQ+ community. A gift in your will, trust or some other venue will ensure your values are continually put into action in your memory.

Speak with your financial advisor

To start the process of including Equality California Institute in your will or trust, we strongly suggest speaking with your financial advisor (Equality California Institute cannot provide legal or financial counsel). However, we do have some information which may be helpful to you:

  • In your will or trust, please include details on whether your gift will be unrestricted and can be used for general operations or restricted to a specific program or use.
  • You may reach out to us for sample language, if that would be helpful.
  • Please note we cannot accept the following types of gifts:
    • Real estate valued under $2 million; home furniture/decor/book collections valued under $1 million; vehicles including boats, cars, etc; and livestock or any animals.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Another way to give is via a charitable remainder trust. A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is an irrevocable trust that generates a potential income stream for you, as the donor to the CRT, or other beneficiaries, with the remainder of the donated assets going to your favorite charity or charities.

This charitable giving strategy generates income and can enable you to support the work of Equality California Institute while also helping provide for living expenses. Charitable trusts can offer flexibility as well as lifetime income, helping with retirement, estate planning and tax management.
