SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Today, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced a ban on state-funded travel to California. Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, released the following statement from Press Secretary Joshua Stickney, who is originally from Oklahoma:
“Governor Stitt’s ban of state-funded travel to California may be an easy win for his political base, but it won’t scare us. We’re proud of Attorney General Becerra, Assemblymember Low and the State of California for defending LGBTQ civil rights and sending a strong message that discrimination of any kind is wrong. The governor’s ban isn’t a meaningful message; it’s just sad pandering. “Instead of playing tit-for-tat games, Governor Stitt should work with groups like Freedom Oklahoma and Equality California to overturn the state’s discriminatory law that allows adoption and foster care agencies to discriminate against LGBTQ families. That’s how you become a ‘Top Ten State’ — California would know.”
