Los Angeles – Equality California commends a federal court in Washington, DC for blocking the Trump administration from implementing the President’s directive banning transgender service members.
“This clear and decisive action by the federal court protects transgender military personnel from this administration’s discriminatory ban,” said Rick Zbur, executive director at Equality California. “Equality California applauds the court’s actions, and promises to continue the fight for equality for our service members under this administration.”
Equality California and seven brave transgender service members and potential enlistees are plaintiffs in Stockman v. Trump, a separate ongoing lawsuit in the Central District of California. The plaintiffs are represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), and Latham & Watkins LLP. Stockman v. Trump challenges the constitutionality of President Donald Trump’s August 25 directive banning transgender people from enlisting or serving openly in the military and denying them medically necessary healthcare.
