FRESNO, Calif. — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, endorsed Senator Anna Caballero for re-election in the newly drawn Senate District 14 on Tuesday. Caballero has long been a champion for LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice in the Legislature and has a 100% lifetime score from Equality California for her voting record on pro-equality legislation.
“Senator Caballero has a long history of advocating for LGBTQ+ equality and has been a strong and consistent voice for our community in the Legislature,” said Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoang. “Anna is a champion for affordable housing for rural Californians — including our farmworkers and veterans — and has fought to protect LGBTQ+ and immigrant students. We are proud to support her campaign for reelection.”
Caballero has been a committed ally to the LGBTQ+ community for more than a decade. She was an early and vocal supporter of marriage equality in a socially conservative district and was one of the first officials in the Central Valley to support LGBTQ+ civil rights.
“I’m honored to have the support of Equality California once again in my re-election campaign,” said Senator Caballero. “The fight for LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice is so important to me, and I have valued our close partnership over the years. I look forward to continuing to represent our Valley in the Senate and working on legislation that brings new opportunities for our families, farmers, workers, teachers and veterans.”
Caballero is seeking what would be her second and final four-year term in the California Senate before terming out of the Legislature. Before serving in the Senate, Caballero was a member of the California State Assembly for four years and previously served as mayor and a city council-member. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Equality California Institute, a 501(c)(3) education and advocacy organization affiliated with Equality California.
