LOS ANGELES — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, released the following statement from Executive Director Rick Zbur in response to media reports of planned Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids targeting 10 U.S. cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco:

“Sending armed deportation forces into our communities to terrorize children and families is unjust, immoral and cruel. Like the president’s attacks on transgender servicemembers and students, on Muslims and on women, these continued attacks on our immigrant communities are a stain on the moral fabric of our nation.

“As Elie Wiesel said, ‘Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.’

“We will not be neutral. We will not be silent. We will not be intimidated. When they come for one of us, they come for all of us. And it is our moral obligation to defend our neighbors.”
