WASHINGTON, D.C. — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, today announced the endorsement of Rep. Adam Schiff for United States Senate in November’s general election, following his victory in California’s March 5 Primary. Schiff would fill the seat of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein currently held by Laphonza Butler, who was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom following Feinstein’s passing in September 2023.
“Throughout his time in Congress, Equality California has been proud to partner with Rep. Adam Schiff in efforts to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people,” said Executive Director Tony Hoang. “Currently in the 118th Congress, he is carrying bills that would require health insurance plans to cover prescription drugs that prevent HIV, allow LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to deduct medical expenses related to surrogacy and assisted reproduction treatments from their taxes, and repeal a law that gives immunity to the gun industry from their dangerous products and practices that endanger public safety. Coupled with his full-throated defense of democracy and proven track record of supporting the LGBTQ+ community, we couldn’t be prouder to endorse him as California’s next Senator. We are also grateful to Sens. Feinstein and Butler for their collective work in advocating for our community, and will be forever thankful for our strong and fruitful partnerships.”
